Advanced Certification Program™

Balancing school safety with a positive school climate is critical for students to achieve their greatest potential.  As schools heighten security measures, having the right security personnel who can intervene early on and build strong relationships with students is critical. Let SEC SHIELD provide your district with the standard of excellence for your security personnel.

Our Advanced Certification Program™ provides the standard of excellence for your security personnel. Training is multi-dimensional, focusing on tactical skills, mental health awareness and soft skills needed to bring the highest level of safety in an approachable, non-intrusive way.

Our certification has two options for school districts to choose from: The Advanced Certification Training for Security Guards and for Armed Security Guards.

Participants will receive their Advanced Certification upon full completion of the entire training program.  They also receive ongoing support and mentoring from the SEC Certification Team, including best practices and safety resources that are specific for school environments.

What is all included within the Advanced Certification Program™?

The following components are core competencies required to complete the Advanced Certification Program™:

De-Escalation Training (3-Hours)
This training addresses the ability to reduce the intensity of a conflict or a potentially violent situation. Key objectives include how to practice situational awareness, recognize verbal and nonverbal warning signs of increasing aggression; how to build rapport; how to manage your emotional reactivity and how to communicate effectively.

Critical Incident Response Training (3-Hours)
We help prepare those charged with leading the response to an emergency, in order to achieve the best possible outcome. This training is multi-faceted, including active shooter training and other relevant emergencies, such as bomb threats, insider violence, chemical spills or environmental dangers from nature or intruders.  Participants learn the essential emergency response tactics and strategies for mitigating the effects of physiological responses when emergencies occur.

Behavioral Threat Assessment™ (3-Hours)
This training provides a proactive, evidence-based approach to identify, assess, and manage threats of targeted violence. The process is grounded in best practices and thought leadership from the United States Secret Service & National Threat Assessment Center (NTAC).

Tabletop Training (3-Hours)
This discussion-based training simulates an emergency that is played out, around a table, with participants responding to the leader’s prompts.  The goal is to clarify roles, responsibilities, and resources during an emergency.

To complete the Advanced Certification Program for Armed Security Personnel, the following additional core competency is required:

Tactical Training (2-Days)
Participants go through a Live Firearm Training, where they receive both single person tactics and scenario-based training with role players.  This simunition training helps participants to engage in experience building and lifesaving exercises essential for safety. Tactical training also focuses on the building blocks of critical thinking, crisis intervention and de-escalation strategies to reduce the intensity of a potentially violent situation.

The following components can be added for a customized training program:

School 101 Training (3-Hours)
In this training, we teach the skills necessary for understanding adolescent development and the policies and procedures specific to school environments.  Key objectives include strategies for effective communication with students, understanding students with special needs, how to identify signs of abuse, and emergency restraint.  We also cover the use of school technology, social media impact and the privacy rights for both students and families through FERPA.

CPR, AED, First Aid, & Stop the Bleed Training (3-Hours)
Participants learn to recognize and respond appropriately to cardiac, breathing and first aid emergencies. We teach the skills required to give immediate care to an injured or ill person until more advanced medical personnel arrive and take over.

“Let SEC SHIELD be your trusted partner in providing the most advanced and comprehensive training programs for your district’s security personnel.”
