Event Site Assessments

Sports, clubs, and other extracurricular activities are an essential part of the student experience and provide a safe place for students to spend their time outside the school day. However, with the increasing number of gun-related and other security incidents at after-school events, it is critical that districts be just as prepared for emergencies outside the school day as they are during the school day. These activities, including sporting events, performances, and extracurricular activities, are integral to student well-being and the greater school community.

What is an event site assessment?

The challenges to being prepared for emergencies outside the school day are significant as district leaders must consider the event’s location, the number of visitors to campus, and a limited number of onsite staff–to name a few.  SEC’s event site assessment process is comprehensive and collaborative and results in actionable steps schools can take to enhance student, staff, and visitor safety.

Our event assessment includes a detailed analysis of processes and procedures, specifically visitor entry, emergency preparedness, communication,  staff training, and law enforcement coordination. In addition, our team will attend events to assess physical security. SEC will provide a comprehensive report to guide the next steps for event security.

What are the benefits of conducting event site assessments?

What types of events can be assessed?

We will work with school leaders to identify the events with the most significant risks and areas of concern. Athletic contests, performances, and other extra-curricular activities should be considered from elementary to high school.
