Behavioral Threat Assessment Resources

Behavior threat assessment and management is an often-overlooked layer of security that gives your organization the ability and opportunity to prevent violence, instead of responding to it. Our highly experienced consultants can guide you through implementing a program, train your team, meet with your team as needed, and offer guidance in complicated cases at any time.

Why is it so important?

A top priority for every organization or school is to provide a safe environment for their students, staff, and visitors. Behavioral threat assessment is a standardized and comprehensive process that helps to provide early-stage interventions and support before behavior escalates to threats or violence. In schools, it emphasizes relationships with caring and trusted adults as protective factors for students. In all organizations, it can improve the climate and culture of your organization, and lead those in need to mental health and other resources. Following a formal, systematic, documented process can also reduce liability for your organization.

Many schools and organizations have sent key staff to training, or may already have a behavioral threat assessment team in place. Others are looking for a way to get started. Simply having a team in place is not enough. No matter where you are in developing this crucial layer of safety at your organization, we can help your team get to a higher level and operate within standards of best practice. SEC can provide the resources and ongoing support at whatever stage of implementation you are with your behavioral threat assessment teams.

Behavioral Threat Assessment Overview

This 2-hour training will bring awareness to your entire staff regarding the Behavioral Threat Assessment program at your organization. They will be taught that everyone has a role in preventing violence by recognizing and reporting concerning behaviors and situations. This awareness will allow them to assist the team in investigating and managing these situations. Key objectives include recognizing risk factors and warning signs of targeted violence, recognizing concerning and prohibited behavior, and the importance of reporting these to the Behavior Threat Assessment Team.

Training & Implementation

SEC provides comprehensive, interactive behavioral threat assessment training, based on the NTAC model, and led by our carefully selected and highly trained consultants. The length of training will vary, based on the size of your team, the size of your distict/organization, and the  amount of time available for training.  SEC recommends a minimum of one-day but training can be customized to best fit your needs.

Team members from your organization will leave with a blueprint for assessment model implementation and a roadmap for success. As we believe training is only the first step, our support doesn’t stop at the conclusion of this event; SEC will support implementation for an entire year, by meeting with your teams regularly, ensuring processes are being followed, problem-solving on complex cases and being your go-to expert and consultant.

"While physical security features are important in providing a safe and secure environment, layers of prevention must also be in place. An effective behavior threat assessment process is a crucial layer of prevention."
