Tabletop Training for Emergency Response

This scenario-based training, using simulated emergencies, allows attendees to apply the strategies in their emergency operations plan. The scenarios are facilitated by a senior SEC consultant and include a variety of evolutions throughout each scenario.

Why is this training so important?

The purpose of tabletop training is to validate your existing emergency operation plan and identify its strengths and weaknesses before an actual incident occurs. Conducting these types of exercises promotes changes in attitudes and perceptions.

Tabletop trainings aim to clarify roles, responsibilities, and resources during an emergency. The facilitator uses responses drawn directly from the organization’s emergency plan to reinforce familiarity with related procedures. SEC will provide exploratory exercises meant to draw solutions, clear up uncertainties, identify areas of improvement, exercise the decision-making process, coordinate with local first responders.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Tabletop training is ideal for school administrators and organizational leaders who will be charged with leading the cause when an emergency or crisis occurs.  A tabletop exercise includes an SEC facilitator and multiple participants. Participants may include members of one department, one representative from individual departments, employees grouped by functionality or leadership, or employees grouped by location.

Each organization has unique threats and emergencies that can occur.  You’ve likely already identified potential threats or emergencies your organization will face. SEC can use that information to customize each tabletop training to best match your desired outcome and top risk categories.

We recommend our Tabletop training be delivered live and in-person to ensure the most desirable actions and outcomes for your organization.

Our Tabletop training can be customized to fit your organizational goals best.  We recommend a minimum of three hours to cover all the key objectives successfully and have time to interact and engage with participants at the conclusion.

Ideally, Tabletop training will include key stakeholders and decision-makers who will be charged with leading an organization through a crisis or emergency.  While this number may vary, we recommend no more than 15 participants per Tabletop training.  Your SEC consultant will work with you to customize the training to best meet your safety and security needs, as well as identify the best space, audio and visual needs required.
