What is included with de-escalation training?
This training is designed to improve participants’ understanding of inter-personal communication. It specifically addresses the ability to reduce the intensity of a conflict or a potentially violent situation by understanding both verbal and nonverbal communication strategies.
SEC has several de-escalation trainings available for your organization, including a generalized training for all audiences and two specific trainings for your personnel.

Access control & de-escalation training for front office staff
Controlling access to facilities is often the most critical security feature. Creating a process for controlling access that includes assessing verbal and nonverbal communication as well as appropriate inquiry is necessary to maintain a safe and secure environment. Conflicts and emergency situations arise specifically for front entry staff as they are often the first interaction visitors have on campus. This training is designed to prepare front office staff to more effectively control access into their facility and better communicate with visitors.

De-escalation training is appropriate for all staff, including organizational leaders and employees at all levels of the organization. For schools that rely heavily on volunteers throughout the year, we recommend including them as well.
Our de-escalation training for transportation is geared specifically towards bus drivers, transportation aides & volunteers, while our access control & de-escalation training is specifically designed for staff members who are tasked with controlling access to your facilities.
This training program can be delivered live (onsite) or live (virtual). De-Escalation training can also be available on-demand as part of our eSEC Online Membership, which includes self-paced training modules, certificates of completion, and printable resources.
Our de-escalation trainings can be customized to fit your organizational goals best. We recommend a minimum of 60-120 minutes to cover all the key objectives successfully and have time to interact and engage with participants at the conclusion.
While no minimum or maximum number of participants is required, we recommend working with your SEC consultant to discuss the best space, audio, and video needs onsite.
