Critical Incident Response Training (CIRT)

Organizations can face several emergencies.  Our multi-hazard training program will equip participants to respond effectively to various emergencies. Training includes discussions of primary response protocols; these protocols are designed to encompass response to all emergencies.  The training comprises critical concepts, including physiological and mental responses, as well as strategies to increase one’s skills when faced with danger. In addition, our Critical Incident Response training covers a broad range of human and natural disasters.

Why is this training so important?

Life-threatening emergencies can happen fast and having the skills to effectively respond can reduce negative impact on your operation.  Critical incident response training enhances staff coordination, communication, and operational proficiency.  All our trainings are tailored to your school, facilities, and emergency plan, ensuring staff are equipped to react to any emergency.

Key Learning Objectives

The most important factor in the outcome of an emergency is training.

The most important aspect of your entire safety and security program is training. When employees are prepared to respond to an incident, there is a much higher chance of controlling damage to people, property, and interests. Training empowers individuals to confidently perform when an incident occurs and, ultimately, contribute to the success of the overall response.  A lack of training, on the other hand, has the ability to detract from the success of the overall response.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Our training programs are available live (onsite) or live (virtual).  Critical Incident Response training can also be available on-demand as part of our eSEC Online Membership, which includes self-paced training modules, certificates of completion, and printable resources.

Our Critical Incident Response training can be customized to fit your organizational goals best.  We recommend a minimum of two hours to cover all the key objectives successfully.  Interactive lockdown scenarios can be added to this training to help provide real-time feedback to participants on their behavioral responses to an emergency.

While no minimum or maximum number of participants is required, we recommend working with your SEC consultant to discuss the best space, audio, and video needed onsite.  SEC recommends a maximum of 50-60 attendees per session for training that includes interactive scenarios.

Critical Incident Response Training is appropriate for all staff, organization leaders and employees at all levels of the organization.  It is critical to train all of your employees on a regular basis.

In an emergency, most individuals will not take the time to find the emergency plan and read it. They will either respond with hardwired responses (Fight, Flight, Freeze) or they will respond as they have been trained. Organizations should consider responsible and reasonable multi-hazard training. While specific active shooter training is very in vogue, it is more beneficial to train staff on concepts that apply to a variety of emergencies, including active shooter response concepts.
Be careful of focusing your valuable training time on only one type of emergency. Training should be best practice, engaging and done on a responsible basis.
