How SEC began
Secure Environment Consultants began with the vision of our President and Founder, Jason Russell. Jason earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Western Michigan University and a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice and Security Management from Michigan State University. He started his career at the Lansing Police Department, where he gained valuable experience in community safety and public service.
Jason later joined the United States Secret Service, serving on protective details for several presidents and senior government officials. His time with the Secret Service strengthened his belief that strong planning and prevention can stop tragedy long before it occurs.
Everything changed for Jason after the Sandy Hook tragedy. As a father with children the same ages as the victims, he felt a deep conviction that schools and childcares needed stronger support and practical protective measures. He recognized that many organizations were vulnerable and needed expert guidance to build safer environments.
With this calling, Jason founded SEC in 2013. What began as a small, mission driven effort quickly grew as Jason and his team partnered with childcares and schools across the country, providing comprehensive security needs assessments and becoming a long term partner in prevention.
Our mission drives our growth
Since our inception in 2013, SEC has grown to serve thousands of organizations across the United States and in several other countries. Our roots began in the childcare industry, driven by a passion for protecting children and supporting those who care for them.
Unmatched experience and a holistic approach
As Jason was called into multiple crisis situations and school shootings, our work expanded to support K through 12 schools with stronger and more actionable safety practices. Today, SEC helps districts enhance their security posture through comprehensive security needs assessments, in person training, emergency response plans, social media monitoring, and ongoing security consulting. Our focus on layered, practical solutions help safeguard students, staff, and school communities.
SEC has worked with organizations of every size and type, public and private, urban and rural. With more than one hundred years of combined security experience, our team understands the complex challenges organizations face and the importance of viewing safety through a holistic lens.
